Hello! My name is Daniel (he/him). I am an archaeologist and historian from central California currently specializing in Lusophone Africa. I recently completed a research trip to Guinea-Bissau along with my thesis, which is about the role a small village called Tite played in Guinea-Bissau's liberation war of 1963-1974. You can read it here! I am now in the process of applying to PhD programs and expanding my area of expertise a bit.

I like:

• History, anthropology, and archaeology. Specifically prehistoric peoples and human origins, lithic technology, Native American history, the peopling of the Americas, modern African history, and decolonization.
• Nature and ecology. Especially anything related to the Mojave Desert.
• Poetry. Favorites are Mary Oliver, Walt Whitman, Seamus Heaney, Elizabeth Bishop, Billy Collins, Emily Dickinson, Thomas Hardy, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
• Journaling. Going to coffee shops and parks to braindump is one of my favorite activities.
• Linux, FOSS, indie-web. I've been learning some HTML and CSS lately and having a great time.
• Tea. Scottish, Irish, English breakfast, in that order.
• Birdwatching. Particularly fond of the red-tailed hawk, great blue heron, acorn woodpecker, and Brewer's blackbird.
• Drumming. I've been playing drums since I was twelve or so and haven't improved significantly since I was about twenty, but I still enjoy it!
• Music. Mostly ambient, indie rock/emo, black metal, jazz, folk, world music, jangle pop, and hip-hop. Though I'm usually just listening to The Mountain Goats.
• Video games. Pretty much just online chess, Slay the Spire, Skyrim, Fallout, Stardew Valley, Wingspan, my PS2 emulator, and reminiscing about RuneScape.
• Photography. I'm an extremely amateur photographer but I like to bust out the DSLR from 2005 every now again.
